Gillingham &shaftesbury show results

A long hot day at gillingham show today. No marquee for cattle and it was blazing sunshine so we all came home a bit dazed and pink!

Good results though:-

First up was Logan and Charlotte in the young handlers and they took 2nd and 5th place in a class of 7 - charlottes calf was very naughty today and would not walk nicely but the judge told her she did well for persevering. There were much older children with larger cattle behind her in 6th and 7th place! Logan did very well taking 2nd place

Then we had the any other beef class's which had entries from Sussex, Irish Moil, traditional hereford, shorthorn, red poll and British white

In the calf class Logan took 3rd with Chiperoo and Charlotte got 6th with Crusher

In the cow and calf class Gracie got 4th in a class of 6

In the heifer class Angela got 3rd and Sadie 5th

In the bull class we had Apollo on his first outing and did very well taking 2nd place  putting Conker into 3rd place! I think he will be one to watch he looked very showy and is only 20 months as yet. Unfortunately I was showing Conker so no pictures

Lastly we had the pairs with Apollo and Angela and we were very pleased to get 2nd place

All in all a succesful day. We had a few enquiries about semen use for cross breeding as people appreciated the build, confirmation and temperament of the lowlines.

Good results at Ellingham and ring wood show

We had a successful day today on a lovely sunny day at Ellingham

Angela took 3rd place in the heifer class beating simmental, red poll and british white with modern Angus 1st, Simmental 2nd.

Gracie took 2nd in the cow with calf at foot class, coming above an angus and british white with a nice Angus in 1st

Conker got 2nd in the bull class to a lovely young Simmental bull which went onto win the overall championship.

Conker &  Gracie won 1st place in the pairs class beating the simmentals, Aberdeen Angus and British white!

Logan then went onto win the under 13yrs young handlers class and then 3 rd in the overall young handlers

It is so nice to see the lowlines judged on their own merit resulting in us being placed above much bigger animals. Some judges place in size order putting biggest first  - bigger isn't always better! In mixed breed class's you cannot compare like with like so each animal needs to be scored on its own merit and placed accordingly not compared - exactly how we were judged today - fairly!

It was an early 530am start so ready for a large cup of tea and a sit down now!

Gillingham show next on the 21st August.

Another calf - heifer at last !

A new heifer calf born this afternoon. A relief after our run of bulls.

It's amazing how perky these lowline calves are, at only 20 minutes old she had a full belly and was steady on her feet.
