Calving update

Calving is now well underway, all our Angus surrogates have calved pure lowlines from the embryo transplant programme and now our lowline cows and heifers are starting to calve as well. Thankfully the weather is warming up and grass is finally starting to grow But we are still a long way behind where we were this time last year grass wise.

Calf number 3

Made an entrance late last night and our first heifer, this one did need a little assistance as she had her legs out but head right back, even with a big Angus surrogate mum it could have been trouble if David hadnt been there and was able to assist. Got her out and all well.

Calf number 2

On a roll, another calf from an Angus surrogate this afternoon..... Another bull though so hoping for some heifers soon!

First calf of the year

Last night we got our first calf of the year and the first from our embryo transfer programme so we have a full blood lowline (bull) born to a pedigree Aberdeen Angus surrogate mother, there have been some concerns about the calves being able to reach the teat but thankfully ungrounded as the perky little fella suckled without problem. The lowline calves are always so bright and spritely straight from birth. Fingers crossed all the remaining calves make such an easy entrance to the world .... And that we get a run of heifers now!
