Day 2 at Stafford

Beef championship today, champion bulls from every breed. unsurprisingly the overall championship and reserve went to a large Simmental and Hereford bulls , quite similar types so obviously what that judge preferred. But we didn't expect a place up against all the large established breed champions - the judge again didn't know what a lowline was but conker looked smashing and showed well. We are still over the moon to have won the "other breeds" championship yesterday which was a great achievement again against established well known breeds. It was also the calf handlers class today and Logan did well to get fifth place in a class of seven and beat older handlers with much bigger calves. Our little lowline calf is still only very young and not quite grasped the showing business but it is only his 3rd show.
C'mon calf this is your big chance!
fifth in a tough class

Championship goes to the Lowline bull!!

Judging over at Stafford, our bull won the bull class against south Devon and welsh black bulls and the judge said "what a fantastic bull, great conformation and build and walks very well" gave us the first prize rosette then said "what is he" ! However We then went on to win the overall "any other beef breed" championship with him, reserve champion going to a lovely big south Devon cow. Our lowline cow and calf came third in her class as did the young heifer. All in all an excellent results- now we have to go in the interbreed championship tomorrow....

Stafford show

Cattle are all washed and settled for the night ready for judging tomorrow. Up against South Devons & welsh black in any other beef breed and we have a Charolais man judging so will see how it goes.... Already had a few other exhibitors enquiring about Lowlines though and how they came about , some limousin people impressed by the Lowlines bulls frame so no matter what happens with judging we are spreading the Word about Lowlines !

Royal Bath & West show

Smart boy ready for judging

An early 530am star for the show today, a shame exhibitor numbers were down by quite a significant amount. Possibly due to the Jubilee and half term but still a worthwhile day. We were up against speckled park and Murray greys and the judge wasn't familiar with Lowlines but we still won a couple of rosettes. One very good point was the excellent commentator who was an Australian and told the spectators all about Lowlines and how they were developed. He explained about all the breeds and what was happening at all stages of judging which was excellent. Need him at a few more shows! White coats and halters all to wash and get ready for Stafford on Tuesday.

Show ready!

All the cattle are washed and ready for Bath & West show tomorrow. Conker washed twice as immediately after his first one he managed to immediately get himself filthy again! David is being interviewed by BBC Somerset at 0830 at the show ground as they wanted to know more about this wonderful breed so listen out for it.
