First calf of the year!
We got our first lowline calf for 2014 ...and ...it's a heifer!! Good start.
It is from one of the Angus surrogates and despite being a tiny jot of a thing it has been straight to the milk.

Canadian arrivals
We were delighted to welcome a lovely group of Lowlines from Canada today. They flew overnight arriving at Heathrow this morning, luckily the terrible storms we experienced last night had eased enough for the flight to arrive ok.
The cattle came off the wagon and seemed perfectly unfazed by their long journey.
They immediately began to explore their new field - it will be the first grass they seen for some time as they left a very cold and snowy Canada. Thankfully we had some blue skies and sunshine for them to arrive into, though im not sure how long that will last! Having come from an extreme cold yet dry climate to our decidedly wet one will take a little adjusting but they have a good thick coat.
This group will help us grow our herd and provide some new bloodlines.
Here they are arriving.

Lowlines arrive in Ireland
We are very pleased to have sent the first registered Lowlines into Ireland! They had a very long journey from Dorset upto Stranraer before crossing to Larne and finally arriving at their new home 2 days after leaving us! However they arrived fit and well and here they are being welcomed with some food and a night of comfort inside before heading outside to explore their new surroundings the next day

Exciting times at Wessex Lowlines
We are excited to be seeing the first export from wessex Lowlines today with a lovely little group heading off to northern Ireland. I'm sure they will be very happy in their new home and do well.
I believe these are the first registered lowline cattle to go into Northern Ireland so we hope they are the start of big things for Lowlines there.
We are also very much looking forward to receiving a further import from Canada in the next week, we have been careful to select animals with the right bloodlines. We have had new sires brought into this group and are excited to bring these into our ever expanding herd.
We are still experiencing the never ending rain so the canadian arrivals will see a difference coming from bitter cold to a wet Dorset! It is testament to the breed how they do so well in such extremes of weather and it just doesn't phase them.
